Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Currituck vacation property experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Booking your Currituck vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Currituck area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking your Currituck rental home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Outer Banks Family-sized Vacation Home 10-minute Walk from the Beach. has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. If not, call the host before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a specific Currituck destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
