We are located just below the North Carolina and Virginia border on Carova beach, between mile markers 21 and 22, roughly 9 miles past where the paved road ends.
The 'Pelican Pad 4x4' is a cavernous six-bedroom home with plenty of room to relax and hang out with family and friends. We're a few mins. walk to the beach (150 yards) or, drive onto the beach, park, and unload for a day of sunshine and relaxation. Come back and take a dip in the pool or hot tub, swing on the hammocks, and just take in the vistas.
At check-in, you'll be welcomed with fresh linens and bathroom towels, hand towels, and washcloths. If you prefer to bring your own, just let us know when creating your reservation. We provide keyless entry access, making it convenient for you to come and go and not worry about keys.
Equipped with stainless appliances (including 2 dishwashers) and water filtration system, this modern, well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to prepare the ideal meal. If outdoor cooking is preferred, a gas grille is supplied for your convenience. Come together for a meal at our 10 foot long dining table, or spread out and savor dining al fresco on the upper deck.
Want to listen to the ocean waves crash, watch the pelicans fly overhead, and see the beauty of the wild horses roaming around the property from our ocean-facing decks... just sit back in one of our hammocks or Adirondack chairs and appreciate.
Although secluded and remote, this home also offers you the ability to stay connected. We have Roku/intelligent TVs with YouTube TV subscription and wifi mesh throughout the home, giving you the best service and speed on the beach. We also have a variety of games, puzzles, and books to enjoy on your peaceful nights in.
Traveling with little ones can be challenging, so we have tried to lighten your load. A pack & play, high chair, and other miscellaneous infant items are supplied for your convenience, so leave those behind and save some space in the car! We also have a beach closet with items you can use, such as chairs, toys, body boards, and more.
Parking permits are required if parking on the beach. Two parking permits are included (to borrow) with your stay, but MUST be left at the premises at time of check out ($150 replacement fee, per pass, for those not left at checkout), as these are the owner's personal passes. If you need additional permits, we can direct you how to obtain them.
Carova is known for its wide, clean beaches. You'll see wild horses roaming the beach and property, but it is important to keep your distance and NEVER feed the horses. Just sit back and take in their beauty!
We're a short walk to the canal and public boat ramp. There, you can enjoy fishing, catching crabs, kayaking, paddle boarding, using the playground, and more. Take a drive down the beach, and you'll find yourself back on pavement, where there's plenty to do... mini golf, shopping, golf courses, lighthouses, ice cream parlors, and much more! Strategies to get the best Corolla rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- In the Currituck area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- To book the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Currituck restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies supply Currituck area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the best vacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. 4x4 OBX Beach House with pool & hot tub, horses, steps to the beach! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain Currituck attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- During arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
