Tricks and tips to get the very best rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Finding the perfect rental in the Currituck area:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Oceanfront
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's an individual Currituck beach you love, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
