Tips for getting the perfect Currituck rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Currituck area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Make a plan and choose the right Currituck rental:
- First, have your group agree to a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Dog-friendly home with great views, elevator, private hot tub, & pool has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
