Finding the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- In the Currituck area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer months are high season in the Currituck area. Reserve your Currituck rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area travel guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and picking the bestvacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Life By The Sea - OBX has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
