Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Currituck area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose your prefectvacation home:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. C5058 Close to the Beach! Dogs Ok!Free Pool Heat March through May! Specials! has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is right for your group.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- If there's a certain Currituck destination you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
