How to find the best vacation home experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Corolla. To get the most suitable rental home within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First, have your family decide on date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Private Pool, Hot Tub, Community Pool has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Currituck destination you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
