Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Currituck area travel guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Go With The Flow: Newly Built
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
