Strategies to get the best Currituck vacation home experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Currituck area. Book your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to choose and book the best Currituck vacation home:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. The Hunkerdowner: Soundside with a private pool and hot tub and dog friendly! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
