Tips to get the optimal rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Currituck area visitor guides which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your search:
- To start, have your family agree to trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Let Me Count The Waves: Oceanside Townhome, Spa has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or applied to your contract.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. message the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
