Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Currituck vacation property experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Summer is high season in Corolla. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Currituck vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Currituck area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the best vacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Gorgeous Semi-Oceanfront Home in Whalehead has 12 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a specific Currituck attraction you love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
