Tips for getting the best vacation property experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- Summer time is high season in the Currituck area. Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- In the Currituck area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting the best rental home in the Currituck area:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to date ranges and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Sandy Toes & Salty Kisses: 8 King Master Suites, Family Reunions has 12 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your group.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
