Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning and picking the best Currituck vacation home:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beachin Fun (North Unit)
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
More tips for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
