Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Currituck area. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Currituck visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Selecting the perfect rental home:

  • Choose dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 1620 The Fifth Line *8 Min Walk to Beach has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

More considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
