Vacation rental tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.
Choosing the best rental home in the Currituck area:
- Begin by choosing trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Well appointed OBX beach house with access to community pool and tennis courts has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. message the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
