Tips and Tricks to get the best Corolla vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Currituck vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Currituck area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to select the perfect rental in the Currituck area:
- Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Sunset Views! Waterfront in Corolla Light. Pool, Hot Tub. Dog Friendly. Elevator has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a specific Currituck destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
