How to find the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Currituck area. Booking your Currituck vacation home in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Currituck area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to pick the best rental home in the Currituck area:
- First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanside home w\/ pool & hot tub on the beautiful 4x4 beaches of Carova! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If not, email the host before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Currituck attraction you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations for your visit:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
