Strategies to get the very best Currituck rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Currituck visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by having your group agree to dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. The Pour House: Oceanside, Private Pool, Spa has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
