Tips and Tricks for getting the best Currituck rental experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Summer is high season in the Currituck area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area travel guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to select the perfect rental home in the Currituck area:
- First, have your group decide on the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Sound Sational OBX: All you need is right here: Awesome views of the sound and W has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
