Strategies to get the optimal Currituck rental home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To book the largest rental home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Spacious Home with Three King Master Suites with Large Pool, Hot Tub, Elevator has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
More considerations:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
