Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:

When to book a Currituck rental & When to go:

  • To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area travel guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the perfect rental home:

  • First, have your group select trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Sea Forevermore 8 Bedroom Home at Whalehead has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
