Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Currituck area. Reserve your Currituck vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Salty Bones: Private Pool, Close to Beach Access, Community Amenities has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Have a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. text the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
