Vacation rental booking tips:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • In the Currituck area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Currituck visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Salty Bones: Private Pool, Close to Beach Access, Community Amenities has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
