Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is high season in Corolla. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- In the Currituck area, The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Semi-Oceanfront, Yard, Private Pool, Close to Beach, Rec Rm, PI185, Sugar N Spice has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
