Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Carova. To get the best rental within budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies supply Currituck area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the perfect vacation home:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Enjoy ocean views from the crow's nest at Shaka Shack! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, contact the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your invoice.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
