Strategies to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
When to book a Currituck rental & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking your Currituck rental home:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
- Hot Tub
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
