Vacation rental booking tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is high season in Corolla. Book your Currituck rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select your dates and max budget.
- Hot Tub
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
