Finding the best vacation home experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Currituck area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and pick the best Currituck rental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Updated beach house with private pool, hot tub, and community fitness center! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
Have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
