Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Currituck area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
How to select the perfect rental:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Plum Paws: Pool
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
