Tips to get the very best rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Currituck area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking your Currituck vacation home:
- Choose dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Pet-Friendly Oceanside Home on the Beautiful 4x4 Beaches has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's an individual Currituck beach you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
