Rental home tips:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking your Currituck vacation home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply Currituck area travel guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. ManeStay Coastal Cottage, where wild horses roam free! 4 Wheel drive needed has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If not, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
