Strategies to get the very best vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by having your group agree to dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. NEW CONDO IN THE HEART OF COROLLA, NC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
