Tips to get the best rental home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Currituck area. To find the best value, try changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing and booking your Currituck rental home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Beach Cottage a short walk from the waves! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If not, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
