Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Currituck attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and pick your prefect Currituck vacation home:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Private, Secluded, Spacious, Short walk to beach, Sound, Ocean View from deck has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your family.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Advice for a terrific stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
