Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Currituck area. Book your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Currituck area travel guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the perfect rental home in the Currituck area:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Audubon Oasis: Soundfront Home, Dog-friendly, New to Rental Program has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
