Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Currituck area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting and booking the right Currituck rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family select a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 2024 Open weeks discounted ~150 yards to ocean ~ 4 master suites ~ Pups welcome has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
- If there's an individual Currituck beach you love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your agreement.
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
