Vacation rental tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer time is high season in the Currituck area. To find the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many rental management companies supply Currituck area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Always Summer: Private Pool, Spa, Club Access has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
