Strategies to get the optimal Currituck vacation property experience:
Finding the best value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the largest rental home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local shops and restaurants.
How to select the perfect rental:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Semi-Oceanfront, Pets Welcome, Wild Horses, Ocean Views! 4x1678, Turtle Trax has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
