Tips and Tricks to get the best Corolla vacation home experience:
When to book a Currituck rental home & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Just a stone's throw from the beach! Dive into Wave After Wave of enjoyment! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
