Our top Rental home tips:
How to get the best rental value:
- Booking your Currituck vacation home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. The FUN Begins at OBXAVALON2! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
Have a great stay:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
