Welcome to Kahlua Sands!! Come relax and watch the wild horses in this comfortable, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home located in the remote and peaceful 4x4 Carova Beach. There are no paved roads, only sandy trails to discover, sun to soak up, and sand to sink your toes in. One of the best things about this remote location is that you can park directly on the beach, so no need for lugging of heavy beach equipment! There are two beach parking passes supplied for your stay. ($250 fee if they are lost)
Located among the pine trees, this location is ideal for a peaceful and calming stay, with many ways to savor the surrounding nature and wildlife.
You are a 14 min. walk or 4 min. drive to the beach.
It is a 2 min. drive or 15 min. walk to False Cape state Park at the North Carolina/Virginia border with many trails to discover the untouched wilderness.
The home is just a short drive from the Carova Park by the canal. Appreciate fishing, or appreciate viewing the local wildlife, including the wild horses, turtles, fish, osprey, herons, and various migratory birds. The park is also next to the canal's boat ramp where you can can launch a boat, canoe, paddleboard, or one of the two kayaks that this rental provides.
There are intelligent tv’s in the king and queen bedrooms. A Intelligent tv is also located in the living area. Internet is included but guests will need to log into their own streaming services.
The outdoor space includes a fire pit charcoal grille combo (need to provide your own charcoal) with ample seating and outdoor shower. The kitchen with have some dry spices, plates, glasses, silverware, etc. as well as a variety of cookware to prepare meals. Sheets and towels are supplied but you will need to bring any hygiene products as well as trash bags, toilet paper, paper towels, soap and shampoo etc.
Things to consider:
Please note that there is nothing commercial in Carova, which is what makes it so unique! There are grocery stores, eateries, and many spots for entertainment located "on the pavement" in Corolla, which is about 15 miles or about a 45 min. drive away.
Also, there are no paved roads in Carova and a 4 wheel drive car is required to travel on the beach. Tires must be aired down to 15-20 psi to avoid getting stuck in soft sand. If you are new to beach driving, it is helpful to review the daily tide chart and travel the beach during low tides. Please refer to the Currituck county beach parking driving website for further air down instructions, etc. Gas tanks should be full as there are no gas stations in the 4x4 area. There is a complimentary airing up station located in Corolla as well.
The home has a water filtration system, and the water is ideally safe to drink, but we prefer to bring our own water from home. We use the tap water for bathing and brushing teeth with no complaints.
In conclusion, if your vacation goal is to slow down, escape the 9-5, and focus on quality time with the people who matter most; you have found the ideal place!

Tips to get the best Currituck vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Narrow your Search:
- First, have your group commit to dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Spacious 3-bedroom home with WiFi, smart TVs, in the peaceful 4x4 area of Corova has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's an individual Currituck destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
