This beautiful getaway is surrounded by live oaks, whimsical art, wild horses, and ocean waves. Carova Beach is a really special refuge from our busy world-- a ideal place to reconnect with yourself and adored ones. The 3 bedroom home is on a dead-end sandy road with no neighbors in sight, just a 3 min drive from the beach. There is nothing better than calming on the hottub here, surrounded by live oak trees in complete privacy listening to the sound of the ocean under brilliant starry pinpricks of light in the dark sky. There's original, playful art in every room, ideal inspiration for finishing up that novel I know you have in you! A 4WD (or AWD with high clearance) car is needed to drive up to the home.
The home is lovingly decorated with playful ocean paintings and a cute surfer vibe. There are three bedrooms: the master Rainbow bedroom has a king bed, the second Wave bedroom has a double bed in it, and the third Mermaid bedroom has two twins set up as a bunkbed. There are two bathrooms in the home. One is in the hall between the Mermaid room and the Wave room, while the other is located inside the master Rainbow bedroom.
The home is located in Carova Beach, a sparely developed area of coastal North Carolina. Separated from the rest of Corolla by nature and wildlife preserves, Carova Beach is accessible only by driving on the beach for about 20 mins.. Carova Beach is a time capsule, and still feels exactly like it did in the 1980s, with sand roads and wild horses. It's a ideal location for people who want to reconnect with nature and take a break from operating in a world constructed on concrete. The home is super private, and is located on the sound side of North Swan Beach, but has amenities to help you stay connected to the outside world, like reliable Brightspeed Internet, WiFi, multiple Roku TVs, and a intelligent speaker.
You may see wild horses in the maritime forest at the home or in the dunes on your way to and from the beach. There are often horses hanging out around the home (sometime taking a nap in the driveway!). The beach itself is a fast 10 min walk or a 3 min. drive away from the home and parking on the beach is allowed. A beach parking pass (necessary in the high season) is supplied with the home rental.
The trip up to the home is a fun and simple adventure. Before you start your drive down the beach off the pavement, air down your tires to about 15 or 20 psi. This is important to do even if you have a 4 x 4 that you think will not get stuck, as it helps avoid making enormous ruts on the beach. Time your trip as close to low tide as possible, stay in tire tracks when possible, and go slowly, keeping a wide distance from horses/people.
The Carova Beach boat ramp is a five min. drive from the home and there is a modest playground there. If you'd like to go out to dinner or to the grocery store or climb the Currituck Lighthouse, the drive back down to the pavement takes about 20 to 25 mins.. It's best to stock up on everything you think you might need on the way up at the Harris Teeter or Food Lion in Corolla! It is a Robinson Crusoe mini adventure, and its advised to keep an eye on the tide and to also get travel insurance if an unexpected storm/nor'easter comes up. We very rarely lose power at the home, but if so, the electric well cannot pump water, so you may wish to bring bottled water with you. Please bring your own beach chairs and beach towels too. There is no pool or Hottub. Starter paper towels, toilet paper, dishwashing detergent, and laundry detergent are supplied, but will only last a day or two, so you will need to bring your own if you are staying for longer.
We try to be as environmentally conscious as possible, so separation of trash and recyclables is encouraged. There is a regular coffee pot, a teat kettle for the stove, and a intelligent Keurig machine. A reusable Keurig filter is supplied if you would like to bring your own ground coffee. (Regular K cups work too and can be recycled!)
You are welcome to bring your dog to appreciate the beach with you, and there is a fenced in area of the yard. Please be respectful of the rules for the dog, and do not allow them on any of the furnishings or beds.

Getting the best Currituck vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- To find the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Currituck area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the perfect vacation home in the Currituck area:
- Begin by selecting your trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Green Wave Cottage @Carova Beach NC 4x4 Artsy Nature Private Retreat ???? ???? Hottub has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
