Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting the perfect rental home:
- To start, have your group select date ranges and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanside, Close to Beach, Private Pool, Hot Tub, PI65, Eagle's Nest has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
