Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Currituck area. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Mellow For Shore-Built in 2023-3.5 Miles off pavement\n4WD required-AIR DOWN!! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
Advice for a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
