Tips and Tricks to get the best Corolla vacation rental experience:
Finding your best deal:
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Book your vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Finding the best rental:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Mermaid Crossing 6 Bedroom Home at Ocean Hill has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
