Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Currituck area. Booking in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Many property management companies supply Currituck area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Jewel of the Sound: Private Pier, Saltwater Pool has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
