Our top Rental property booking tips:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Currituck area. Reserve your Currituck rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. It's 5 O'clock Somewhere: Pool, Spa, Club Access has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If not, email the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or applied to your invoice.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
