Strategies to get the very best vacation property experience:
When to go & When to book:
- In the Currituck area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- To get the best value, consider changing your family's Currituck trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the best rental:
- Select your dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Family 4x4 luxury, steps from the beach, pool, hot tub, theater, Sunday rental, wifi has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
