Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to go & When to reserve a Corolla rental home:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies supply Currituck area visitors guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the best vacation rental in the Currituck area:
- Start by having your family agree to the best dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Egret Alley: Dog-Friendly, Priv. Pool, Perfect Sunsets has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is suitable for your family.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
