Tips and Tricks to get the best Currituck vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
How to choose the perfect vacation rental in the Currituck area:
- To start, have your family agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Coral Sunset: Private Pool
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
