Rental home tips:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Corolla. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Currituck area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. C7087 Mr. Sandman Pool, Hot Tub, PETS, Linens, Keyless has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
