Tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
When to book a Currituck rental & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Currituck vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Brand-New Luxury Condo, Steps to the Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
